How to Dry and Cure Cannabis Like an Expert

Harvested buds hanging to dry - Weed Burnable and TastySo, you are now at the harvesting stage.  After months of hard work nurturing your plants, adjusting the lighting, humidity, temperature and adding nutrients you now have plants and buds to be proud of.

You may be thinking that all the hard work is now over ad you will soon be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.  Sorry, but the reality is you still have work to do if you want to obtain the very best form your crop.

Once you have harvested cannabis you need to both cure and dry your plants. It is crucial to do this as soon as possible after harvesting the buds and needs to be done in a controlled way to obtain the best results. After this, we recommend keeping the dried buds in glass mason jars for a few weeks.  That way you will have weed that smells and tastes wonderful and more importantly will most likely be more potent.

Drying and curing do two very important processes to your buds.  First, it reduces the moisture in the buds breaking down the chlorophyll making the buds easier to store and smoke. Secondly, it helps to increase the potency of THC and improves both the smell and taste of the dried and cured weed.

Ok, so what are the best ways to dry your plants to ensure you get the best possible results?

A couple of things you must avoid are:-

Don’t dry in a room where plants are being grown.

Never attempt to dry plants in the same room as growing plants.  The different conditions are incompatible. The levels of humidity and temperature are too high for drying and may well result in your harvested plants being attacked by mold or loss of terpenes through evaporation.

Don’t dry in Jars or closed containers.

Buds should never be dried in closed containers such as jars, plastic containers or closed boxes that do not and cannot enable air to circulate. As the buds begin to dry they give off humidity that will be trapped in this type of container as it condenses on the walls.  This is a breeding ground for mold, mildew, and bacteria.

What is the best way to dry buds?

We recommend using specially designed drying machines to ensure that drying and curing are carried out in a controlled manner. By using the pre-set temperature and correct airflow you are able to ensure that you obtain the best possible results every time with the minimum risk of anything going wrong.  Drying takes about a week and can utilize a lot of space if done manually. A machine will take up less space, drying larger quantities and with perfect results.  Although these are advertised as being driers for food they work perfectly well for buds and will reduce drying time from weeks to hours

Too Low Temperature

Drying your weed at too low a temperature, low 70’s and below, will not allow moisture to leave your cannabis at a consistent rate. This puts you at risk of losing your harvest to mold. Not to mention a loss of aroma and potency.

Too High Temperature

Drying your weed at too high a temperature, ’90s and above will result in bud that is overdried, flavorless, and harsh to smoke.
